This week’s topic for Top Ten Tuesday, originally hosted by the wonderful blog, The Broke and the Bookish, is the top ten authors whose books you automatically buy. Or in my case, top ten seven authors as I could not come up with ten (sadly).

Patricia Briggs

I am absolutely in love with Briggs’ urban fantasy world. I haven’t actually had a chance to read any of her earlier stuff, but I probably would read them.

Sarah Dessen

I am sometimes a huge sucker for good YA fiction and Sarah Dessen fits the bill. She always comes up with great stories that seem very real.

Mitch Albom

Always a good message in a well written story, how I could I resist?

George R.R. Martin

Kind of a given. Who knows if he’ll write any other books not based in the Song of Ice and Fire world, but I would definitely buy it.

Carlos Ruiz Zafon

We all know I love his writing. I have a couple other books on my list from him.

Ernest Cline

A new novel just came out! I am patiently waiting until I can buy it.

Janet Evanovich

Her charm and humor is hard to resist, especially since I am far into the Stephanie Plum series and can hardly back out now.

So, there are my seven! Hopefully I can add authors to this list in the near future – have any suggestions? Let me know!

  2. I love Patty Briggs as well! I read two of her earlier books because they were recently re-released and they were very different from the urban fantasy, but still pretty good, they were Masques & Wolfsbane

  3. I really enjoy Briggs’ earlier stuff, but I found it first, so I wasn’t comparing it to her later work. I’d say you can tell she had less experience then, but they’re still good books. I quite enjoyed Steal the Dragon, which is in the same world as the Wolfsbane books.

  4. Evanovich! I have her on my list as well. And have read 3 of her books this month alone until now and i would actually be reading the next one right now if i would give into my urge.
    For some reason that woman just sucks me into her writing. And i read her books and shake my head while reading it and don’t understand what the heck she is doing to me and why i am reading this. But then the last page! Something happens and i just have to continue on, just have to! i am so happy to hear that i am not alone in not being able to stop this series. I mean i am on currently finished book 8 so i have more books, but still, this series!
    You reminded me that i wanted to try Dessen as well, so thank you 🙂

  5. I’ve only read Evanovich on your list. As I’m originally from NJ – I know some of the references
    5 more to add to your list:
    – Sue Grafton (Alphabet Mystery Series) Started out by listening to her on tape – yes dating that. But loved the Vowel letters best. I also like that she’s still in the 80s with her character. She stays true to Kinsey.

    -Anne Lamott – wonderful writer and her pace and phrases are unbelievable

    -Sidney Sheldon – great suspense – not sure he’s living – I should have checked that first, but go back – lots of options

    – Judy Blume – While most have read her middle school reads,Her adult and YA are just as gripping. Wifey for one, and l just finished “In the Unlikely Event” a fictionalized story about real events. Enjoyed it much more than I’d expected – worth the hype.

    – Harlan Coben – when ever I pick up one of his (aside from the Sports guy ones (I don’t read those) I have the hardest time putting them down. Up to 4am kind of trouble. Gripping from page 1 to the very end.
