Top Ten Tuesday: Favorite Quotes From This Year

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

I’m very excited about this week’s Top Ten theme: favorite quotes from books read this year. Granted, I mostly read classics this year, but that just means I have quite a few good quotes to choose from.

“Who in the world am I? Ah, that’s the great puzzle.” – Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll

“I asked you here tonight because when you realise you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.” – The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion

“And now here is my secret, a very simple secret: It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.” – The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

“Because this is what happens when you try to run from the past. It just doesn’t catch up, it overtakes … blotting out the future.” – Just Listen by Sarah Dessen (so hard to choose just one!)

“It’s enough for me to be sure that you and I exist at this moment.” – One Hundred Years Of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez

“Every book has a soul, the soul of the person who wrote it and the soul of those who read it and dream about it.” – The Angel’s Game by Carlos Ruiz Zafon

“I can’t stand it to think my life is going so fast and I’m not really living it.” – The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway

“Look, the point is there’s no way to be a hundred percent sure about anyone or anything. So you’re left with a choice. Either hope for the best or just expect the worst.” – Lock & Key by Sarah Dessen (again so hard to choose just one, she has such a way with words!)

“Some friends are gossips and some are sloppy drunks. If you like them well enough, you ignore this trait and continue to be their friend.” – Girls in White Dresses by Jennifer Close

“I choose you over everyone.” – Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell

Something that I definitely noticed is that many of these seem to have a romantic feel to them. Or at least a relationship theme – the ones that are forever, no matter if it’s a lover or a close friend. I also noticed that some speak to me because they are very relevant to my life right now. Like not knowing the future, which stresses me out from time to time. But this is something that I love about books – you tend to fall in love with the ones that always speak to you, like a trusted friend, but maybe it’s different and easier to listen to coming from a stranger found within the pages of a book.

Can’t wait to read everyone else’s favorite quotes!

Happy Reading!
