Bookish Thought: Book Conventions & Festivals I Want to Attend

The written word as been around for centuries so it’s natural that there are a lot of festivals, conferences, and gatherings of people that happen around the world for the sole purpose to share the passion of literature.

While I could have guessed that these events happen, I didn’t really take notice until I saw so many other bloggers and bookstagrammers attend BookCon and YALLFest/ YAWest. So I went digging and found so many events that sound interesting. I would love to go to any one of these!

The Book & Literary Events

Edinburgh International Book Festival

I would love to go this one simply because it’s in another country. It’s also a really long festival – it goes for about two weeks! I haven’t actually investigated a lot on what kind of sessions and authors they have, but it would be cool regardless.

BookCon seems to be one of the biggest events or maybe just more well known. I have heard from some bloggers/ readers that it isn’t worth it anymore, especially if you go as a blogger primarily. Either way, I would love to experience it at least once!

BookExpo America

This is held during the same time as BookCon. I figured I would hit up both whenever I have the chance.

Is the Young Adult Book Festival held in Charleston. I’ve seen a few bloggers/ bookstagrammers attend this one. They all seemed to have a lot of fun. Plus I’ve never been to Charleston.

YALLWest is the companion to YALLFest, but held in Santa Monica, CA. I didn’t know about this one until too late and I was no longer living in the area. However, a family member lives in Santa Monica … Definitely want to try to attend this one too.

I wish I knew about this before, because GEorge RR Martin is supposed to be at this year’s event. Also, I love most thriller books I read, so it would be a great event either way I think.

National Book Festival

This is the festival hosted by the Library of Congress, so I feel like it couldn’t be horrible. They probably have a wide range of genres, authors, and other things.

Honestly, I think it would be so much fun to go a romance book convention.

Portland Book Festival (formerly Wordstock)

I love the city of Portland and attending a book festival there would be a lot of fun.

Being a blogger, I think it would be a lot of fun and interesting to attend this conference. I know some that have gone to it and enjoyed it. I think I remember hearing the opposite as well. Either way, it would be an experience.

Have you attended any of these? What did you think? What is your favorite convention/ festival that you’ve attended?

  1. I’m seeing Jasper Fforde speak at the Edinburgh Book Festival on August 11 and I’m SO EXCITED. It’s the only event of the festival I’m getting to this year (I’m also going to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, so it’s a busy couple of weeks) but I’m definitely hoping to get to more in the future.

  2. I’ve been to both the National Book Festival and BookExpo. The National Book Festival was okay, but BookExpo was a lot of fun. I’d like to attend the BookCon events one year and the Edinburgh International Book Festival.

  3. Amazing post. I would love to attend all these bookish festivals. Bookcon is one of the events I got introduced to since I started blogging and it’s been in my “things to do before I die” list lol
