Book to Screen Adaptations I’m Excited For

Films and TV shows adapted from books are always a hit and miss. Sometimes they do an awesome job and sometimes it’s horrible or only okay. Even with the risk of it not being a great adaptation, there’s nothing like seeing a wonderfully written book come to life on the screen.

After seeing the trailer for the new adaptation of Little Women and remembering that a few of Sarah Dessen’s novels are coming to life via Netflix (read my post about that here), I figured I would go searching to see if any other novels I’ve read and enjoyed are set to appear on a screen. I found some of these from the Bibliofile site, which has quite the list.

The Adaptations

Little Women by Louisa May Alcott

I remember enjoying this story, though I read so long ago. I also watched the first adaptation and remember enjoying it as well. I’m mostly excited to see Emma Watson, Saoirse Ronan, and Meryl Streep.

Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli

I loved this book (and several other Spinelli books), when I was younger. While this book is targeted towards younger audiences, I’ll probably watch it simply for the nostalgia.

Dune by Frank Herbert

Okay, this is more a reminder that I should maybe move Dune up my TBR list. Although, I might wait to see what reviews of the movie are first? We’ll see.

The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion

I really enjoyed this quirky romance novel and I’m excited to see what the adaptation will look like. Though I am unsure about Ryan Reynolds being in it, though his character is not yet specified.

Looking for Alaska by John Green

I read this book way back in high school, so over ten years ago. I’m not sure I would say it’s a favorite, but it was definitely an interesting story (for me at the time).

Daisy Jones and The Six by Taylor Reid Jenkins

This is only set as in development, but if they do this right, it could be a great movie!

Artemis by Andy Weir

While I liked The Martian better, this one could still be a fun movie. It’s past the in development stage, but no one is signed on yet to start. Release is expected 2021.

Armada by Ernest Cline

Honestly, I’m unsure if I’m going to even like this one. It’s still in the development stage. I thought his Ready Player One movie was not done well and I worry that this one will get the same treatment. I guess we’ll see.

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

This one was a surprise! I had no idea there were even talks. This is one is also set in the development stage … can’t wait to hear more about it!

The Woman in Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware

Also in the development stage. I love Ruth Ware and this one will be a fun one, if done right.

And of course we have Sarah Dessen’s This Lullaby, Along for the Ride, and Once and For All becoming Netflix movies. I don’t think there’s been any more news about any of these movies, but I’m hoping for some more soon!

What book to screen adaptations are you looking forward to? Let me know in a comment!
