My last two Bookish Thought posts were all about scheduled book to screen adaptations and favorite adaptations already done. The last part of this post series is all about books that I really, really want to see on the screen, both big or little.
Part of me is hesitant to want to see some of these books adapted since not all adaptations end up doing the book justice. However, there’s just something about seeing an actor bring a character to life and helping the reader get a stronger visual of the story. Just, you know, a good one (hopefully).
The Books
Just Listen by Sarah Dessen
I know that three of her other books are getting adapted on top of two others that were put together to form one movie years ago. However, this is one of my favorite books of Dessen’s and I would love to see Anabel and Owen come to life.
The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon
How could I not put this one on the list? It’s one of my favorite books! I can just imagine the atmosphere of the gothic quarter of Barcelona in the mid 1940’s coming to life on the screen.
A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray
I loved this trilogy. I loved the mix of historical and fantasy. I think it would be awesome on the screen. On IMdB it says this is in development, but I’m pretty sure it’s been that way for almost a decade.
The Diviners by Libba Bray
I know that the last book is set to come out in 2020 (yay!). Who doesn’t love a 1920’s film? And with magic?! This acutally has been bought and optioned for a film, but no new news since 2012.
Vengeance Road by Erin Bowman
We need more Westerns and this one would be perfect!
The Death of Mrs. Westaway by Ruth Ware
Honestly, any of her other books would do. I usually don’t watch thrillers that often, but I would definitely see a Ruth Ware movie. Woman in Cabin 10 is optioned for a movie as well as In a Dark, Dark Wood. The Lying Game apparently is optioned for TV. The last two are news to me. I really liked The Death of Mrs. Westaway and think it would be good as a movie too.
Neanderthal Seeks Human by Penny Reid
Any of Penny Reid’s books and characters would be a lot of fun on screen.
The Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs
It could be such a good TV series! It’s not impossible! Just look at The Vampire Diaries or Buffy!
It’s possible that there are more books that I’ve read that I would love to see come alive visually. There are many that are slated already and it will be a lot of fun to see how they turn out!
What are some books that you wish would get optioned for film or TV? Let me know in a comment!
My dream is Throne of Glass

Not sure if I saw this post before, but it caught my eye in the sidebar. I really think that if a Great and Terrible Beauty had come out 10 years later, people would have jumped on it for a film, but its age may be dragging it down — not the hot new property, not yet old enough to be pulled from obscurity into the limelight. I read it when it was new and it kills me that it’s still languishing, undeveloped, because I agree that it would have just wonderful visuals.
I’d also love to see any of Ruth Ware’s books adapted.

That’s a good point, it might have just taken too long for it to be developed. Maybe something will happen with Libba Bray’s new series.
And yes to Ruth Ware!
