Mini Reviews: The Moon and More by Sarah Dessen + The Loveliest Chocolate Shop in Paris by Jenny Colgan

Two of my favorite contemporary authors – Sarah Dessen and Jenny Colgan. I know that when I pick up one of their books, I’m going to enjoy reading it. With that being said, I didn’t find The Moon and More or The Loveliest Chocolate Shop in Paris to be all that exciting.

Overall, I thought the journey to where Emaline ends up at the end of the book was great and important for YA readers. However, I just didn’t love any of the characters or the story itself; something was just off for me. It just ended up being an okay read for me.

I always know how Colgan’s books are going to go. She tends to follow a format that follows a skeleton format of Pride and Prejudice. Nothing wrong with that. As usual, I enjoyed Colgan’s writing. While the characters felt mostly realistic, I just didn’t connect with any of them or found the romance to be realistic. I did like the flashbacks to the older couple that have a connection to Anna.

Have you read either of these contemporaries? What were your thoughts?
