2022 Reading Challenges

Over the last couple years, I have found reading challenges to be helpful; they bring some focus to my reading. At least in the way of reminding me that I should really read the books that I own first before reading newer releases or other books.

I was excited to finish the 2021 PopSugar Reading Challenge, however, I don’t plan on doing it this year or really any other more complex reading challenges.

2022 is going to simply be the year of reading for me ๐Ÿ™‚

Goodreads Reading Challenge

Last year (2021) I set a goal of reading 50 books. I typically read more than that in a year, but I don’t always reach a 100. So this year I decided on a good in-between number of 70 books.

Beat the Backlist

I typically do this challenge every year since I always have a lot of books from previous years on my TBR list. Hosted by Austine Decker.

The guidelines are simple:

  1. The book must be published in the previous year or earlier (for the 2022 challenge, anything published in 2021 or earlier counts).
  2. You have to start and finish the book in 2022.
  3. And thatโ€™s it!

I currently have 532 books on my list that was published 2021 or earlier. So that will be fun haha. I also love that she added the challenge on StoryGraph, so if you’re on that site, be sure to join it there too!

Mount TBR

I have also done this one the last few years as I seem to always have unread books that I own. Hosted by My Reader’s Block.

Rules:

  1. Books must be owned prior to January 1, 2022
  2. ARCs count
  3. Must be read between January 1 to December 31, 2022

I currently own 30 books that are on my shelf that are still unread. I also have 5 unread ARCs. So I just need to not request any more ARCs as well as doing another book buying ban.

Goodreads Random Number Challenge

I asked six of my close friends, also readers, to give me a number between 1 and 542. Since Goodreads numbers the books on my TBR, I’ll aim to read the books that match with the six random numbers given to me.

9: True Grit by Charles Portis

10: Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier

182: Wench by Maxine Kaplan

371: Elatsoe by Darcie Little Badger

387: Beloved by Toni Morrison

412: Survive the Night by Riley Sager

  1. Good luck with the reading challenges! I haven’t joined any challenge yet, the only aim is to read as much as possible the books I already have (incl. eARCs). Cheers to a super good year for reading!
