I missed the last TTT and since this week is a freebie, I decided to talk about the new authors I read and discovered in 2022. This list is composed not only of new authors read in 2022, but the new authors that I’m really excited about! And because I’m so behind on reading my TBR backlist, there are some authors that I’ll list that are probably not new to many of you!
The Authors
S.A. Chakraborty
The Daevabad Trilogy was one that I heard so many good things about and for some reason didn’t read it until 2022. I cannot believe I waited so long to read it, but I’m glad that I finally got to read this author. And just in time for her new book to come out this year!
Elena Armas
I really enjoyed her first book and quickly devoured her second when I could. I just look forward to reading her future romances.
Holly Black
I have one of her YA series on my TBR list but it was her first Adult Fantasy that I read. I enjoyed it and it has definitely piqued my interest in finally picking up some of her other novels.
Sangu Mandanna
I know I’m not alone in loving Mandanna’s witchy romance The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches. I couldn’t believe how much I loved this book. While most of her other books are middle grade and YA, two genres that I don’t really read anymore, I still look forward to any new adult books she decides to write.
Sarah Penner
I bought Penner’s first book early last year (or maybe it was 2021?) and so it took me awhile to actually pick it up. I was nervous because historical fiction is just not a genre I gravitate towards. However, I enjoyed this novel a lot more that I expected and I’m excited to read her upcoming second novel.
B.R. Myers
A Dreadful Splendor was one of those random books I added to my TBR and followed through with putting a library hold on it. I really enjoyed reading this book and I hope that she writes more like it in the future!
Sulari Gentill
I was seeing Gentill’s The Woman in the Library everywhere and soon caved and bought it last year. I chose it as a book to read during October. While not as tension filled as I usually like my mystery/ thrillers, I still enjoyed the story and Gentill’s writing. I haven’t looked through her backlist yet, but I will definitely be keeping an eye out for any future books from her.
Emily St. John Mandel
This is a well known name now and for good reason. I finally read her Station Eleven and really liked it. Based off the blurbs of her two latest novels, she really likes to tell stories that don’t quite stick to just one genre, which I really like.
Holly Black is so talented! I feel like she’s been around most of my life, I read Tithe and Spiderwick as a teen and it’s amazing that she’s still writing stories and coming up with new ideas for her worlds 20 years later.

I totally expected it to be a little more scary since it was a post apocalyptic book but it wasn’t and so beautiful! I mean I read it when we’re still dealing with some COVID stuff, but she’s definitely a great storyteller!

I also tried Mandanna this past year. Great author.

I finished my first Emily St. John Mandel book just a few weeks ago! So you’re not alone there. 🙂

I read St. John Mandel at the very beginning of the covid stuff, which made it especially compelling. She’s done more since, I think!

She has! I’m interested in her latest release, which I think came out sometime in 2022.

I somehow have not yet managed to read Holly Black’s books. I don’t know how that’s happened. I think my favorite new author of 2022 is Leslie Vedder. Her debut, The Bone Spindle, was my favorite book last year. Here is my TTT.

It’s a common with me. I see a book or hear about an author and get excited and then I get distracted with adding other books to my TBR haha.

I must confess that Holly Black is the only author on your list that I’ve read. Oops!

I liked THE WOMAN IN THE LIBRARY, too, and definitely want to read more of Gentill’s mysteries. I hope we both enjoy exploring her backlist!
Happy TTT (on a Wednesday)!
